Camber Plate Installation Instructions

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR CAMBER PLATES

Congratulations!!!  You have made an excellent choice in the purchase of your Camber Plates from Racer’s EdgeRacer’s Edge components are precisely machined to the highest quality standards and exacting tolerances. It is critical the user of these products understands that these components only provide maximum benefit when installed properly. We strongly recommended that a qualified technician install these components as serious injury or even death can occur during installation.  We further advise that the directions be read in their entirety before work begins.

1.     Remove Factory upper strut mount from vehicle and strut.  In most cases this will require the use of a spring compressor.  This procedure can be very dangerous and should ONLY be performed by a qualified technician.  DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS!!!

2.     Place the new camber plate into the vehicle from underneath the wheel well and bolt in place with the four 8mm bolts which are provided.  Torque these bolts to 20 ft-lbs.  When installed correctly, the camber plate protrudes up through the strut tower opening in much the same way as the factory rubber units do.

3.     For reassembly, locate the spring and upper spring seats in their proper place on the strut.  Slide one of the conical washers/spacers over the strut “Pin”, down to the top of the upper spring seat, with the larger diameter part of the washer down. Use extreme care doing this if the coil spring is still compressed in spring compressors.

4.     Now insert the partially assembled strut up into the camber plate bearing from underneath the wheel well making sure that the conical washer/spacer fits nicely into the bearing.

5.     Install the upper conical washer/spacer over the “pin” end of the strut, into the top of the camber plate bearing, with the larger diameter end towards the top.

6.     Install the upper strut nut and torque to 57 ft-lb.

7.     It will be necessary to realign the car after installation

NOTE:  IT IS SOMETIMES EASIER TO INSTALL THE CAMBER PLATE ONTO THE STRUT IF THE STRUT IS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE ENTIRELY.  THEN THE WHOLE ASSEMBLE CAN BE BOLTED INTO THE STRUT TOWER FROM BENIETH THE WHEEL WELL.  FOLLOW THE BASIC PROCEDURE AS OUTLINED ABOVE, MODIFYING THE PROCEDURE WHERE NECESSARY.
