INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR 944 LOWER TORSION TUBE CARRIER BUSHINGS & UPPER MOUNTS
Congratulations!!! You have made an excellent choice in the purchase of your bushings from Racer’s Edge. Racer’s Edge bushings are machined from the finest aircraft grade aluminium to precise tolerances. It is recommended that these directions be read in their entirety before work begins. It is also recommended by Racer’s Edge that a qualified technician install these components.
1. Jack up the rear of the vehicle and safely support it with jack stands. Do not rely on a jack alone to support the vehicle. Lower the torsion tube carrier from the vehicle per manufacturer instructions.
2. Remove the Aluminium carrier housing from the end of the torsion tube carrier. There are 4 bolts that hold the carrier to the tube.
3. Remove the Rubber bushing from the carrier. Usually these will press right out.
4. Clean the bore of any bushing remnants in order to test fit the bushings.
5. Test fit the bushings into the tapered bores of the carrier. DO NOT FORCE BUSHINGS INTO CARRIER. If one is a little snug try it in the other carrier to see if you achieve a better overall fit. If there is still snugness it may be necessary to “clean up” the carrier. [Note: Due to manufacturing tolerances of both the carrier and the bushings some “Cleaning” of the bore may be necessary in order to achieve an optimum fit. Experience has shown us that an inexpensive brake hone driven by an electric drill and lubricated with WD 40 works well for this purpose and will follow the tapered wall of the carrier precisely. Careful to work in small increments so as not to make the carrier too loose].
6. Install the carrier bushings into the carrier. These can be loctited in place in order to remove any little slop in the fit however this is typically not needed.
7. Reinstall the carrier onto the end of the torsion tube.
8. Replace the stock upper mount with the billet Aluminium upper mount. When doing this it may be a good idea to leave the mounting bolts a little loose in order to make raising the torsion tube into place a little easier.
9. After the torsion tube carrier has been raised into its proper location (typically we use a hydraulic jack to facilitate this process) tighten all bolts to factory spec replacing any self lock nuts with factory new nuts.
